 What's New for the 2019 Hyundai Elantra?

The 2019 Hyundai Elantra appears at the midpoint of the compact-car nameplate sixth production cycle. As such, it does receive somewhat of a mid cycle refresh, although most of the changes are really cosmetic. The Elantra is still split into five trims: SE, SEL, Value Edition, Eco, and Limited.

Typically, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra is powered by a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) engine that provides 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque. However, the fuel efficiency-minded Eco stands out—not just for its much smaller, 1.4-liter turbocharged I4 (with its output of 128 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque), but also for the engine’s pairing with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The result is the Elantra’s peak fuel economy of 32 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. The SE is the only one with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox; the other three trims roll with a more convenient 6-speed automatic transmission. As a compact car, the 2019 Elantra provides two rows of seats for up to five people, as well as a passenger volume measured at 95.8 cubic feet. The trunk of the car provides 14.4 cubic feet of cargo volume. You will need to upgrade to the Value Edition for front-seat heating ability and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and to the Limited trim to have a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support and leather seating surfaces. Standard comfort and convenience features on the new Elantra include remote keyless entry, Bluetooth for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, a USB port and an audio jack for hooking up portable media devices, an AM/FM radio tuner, MP3 playback ability, six-speaker audio, and a 5-inch high-resolution touchscreen. At the SEL trim level, you will also get voice recognition, a 3.5-inch TFT monochromatic cluster display, SiriusXM satellite radio service, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, and a larger, 7-inch touchscreen (in place of the 5-inch). The mid-tier Value Edition also provides dual-zone automatic climate control and a smart key system with push-button engine start (an upgrade from remote keyless entry). The Limited adds an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a garage-door opener, an additional USB port, HD Radio, an eight-speaker Infinity Premium Audio system with Clari-Fi music restoration technology, and three years of the Blue Link Connected Care & Remote package. As the trim deemed as giving you more bang for your buck, the Value Edition is the only trim that has a standard power tilt-and-slide moonroof, and it joins the Limited trim in offering the Blue Link package of services. For safety, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra starts off with features such as a driver’s blind spot mirror, a rearview camera, electronic stability and traction control systems, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, seven airbags, and a theft-deterrent system that combines remote keyless entry and a panic alarm. The SEL upgrades the driver’s blind spot mirror with a robust blind-spot collision warning system with rear cross-traffic alert; and it adds forward collision-avoidance assist, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, and driver attention warning. Only the Limited has automatic high beam assist.
